How to Pin up a Saree Pallu with Long Nails: A Practical Guide for Crossdressers

For individuals who enjoy crossdressing and embracing the beauty of traditional Indian attire, such as the saree, having long nails can present a unique challenge when it comes to pinning up the pallu (the loose end of the saree). However, with a few simple adjustments and techniques, it's entirely possible to overcome this hurdle and ensure that your saree looks elegant and stays securely in place. In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to pin up a saree pallu effectively, even with long nails.

Step 1: Preparation: Before you begin draping your saree, ensure that you have the necessary items within easy reach. This includes safety pins, bobby pins, and hairpins, which will be your key tools for securing the saree pallu. Additionally, make sure your nails are clean and free from any sharp edges or snags to avoid accidental tears in the fabric.

Step 2: Draping the Saree:

  1. Start by tucking the plain end (non-embellished end) of the saree into your petticoat at your waist, making sure it is secure.

  2. Begin wrapping the saree around your body, going from left to right, and make approximately five to seven pleats, each about 5-6 inches wide. These pleats should face towards your left side.

  3. Take the remaining fabric and bring it from back to front, below your right arm, and drape it over your left shoulder, allowing it to fall gracefully.

Step 3: Pinning the Pallu: Now comes the challenge of pinning up the pallu effectively while working with long nails. Follow these techniques for a secure and comfortable hold:

  1. Use a Hairpin: Instead of traditional safety pins, consider using a hairpin to secure the pallu pleats at the shoulder. Hairpins have a wider loop, which can accommodate longer nails more easily.

  2. Pre-pin the Pallu: Prior to draping the saree, take a safety pin and attach it to the pallu pleats near the shoulder. Leave a small portion of the pin exposed, which will allow you to grasp and open it without much difficulty.

  3. Use a Needle Threader: Another helpful tool for pinning the pallu is a needle threader. Insert the pin into the threader's loop, then guide the pin through the fabric. This method offers better control when attaching safety pins, especially with long nails.

  4. Bobby Pin Assistance: When it comes to securing the pallu at the shoulder, consider using bobby pins along with safety pins. Bobby pins are wider and can accommodate the thickness of the pleats, while your long nails can easily hold them in place.
